I have a pet peeve....

And doesn't everyone? And of course I have more than one.....but recently one really came to mind.....PAJAMAS!
Don't get me wrong...I love pajamas. But what bugs me is that I see more and more people wearing them like they are everyday clothes. And I am talking about ADULTS doing this.
Example....on Saturday night my husband and I went out to dinner at a local sushi restaurant. It's not a fancy restaurant, it has kind of a sports bar atmosphere...but it's not a fast food joint either.
In comes a couple to be seated...I would say they were in their 30's or so...the man is carrying a car seat with a child maybe a couple of months old. And the woman was wearing pajamas and I am talking hot pink fleece pajamas with lady bugs on them...and to top it off..fuchia colored fluffy slippers. They weren't there to pick up and order to go.....they were there to sit down and have dinner in a restaurant!
Call me old fashioned if you want....but is that really appropriate? And didn't the boyfriend/husband/brother...whatever he was say, "YOUR NOT GOING OUT TO DINNER DRESSED LIKE THAT ARE YOU"?? I know that my husband, kids, even my 4 year old granddaughter would say...EXXXCUSSSEE MEEE...I am not going with you unless you change.
I remember on occasion my daughters trying to slip off to high school wearing pajamas with flip flops or their Uggs on and it was like...NO..unless I see a paper saying it is wear your pajamas to school day, you are not going to school like that...if i can't wear that to work, you certainly can't wear that to school.
But...I do have one exception to the wearing pajamas in public.....if you are like me and hit the day after Thanksgiving sales at 4 am., then you are certainly entitled to wear them....but...if you are out after say 9 am., then you need to go home and change. That's my sermon for the day...AMEN sistas!!

I agree! When, exactly, did that become acceptable. I seen a man in house shoes the other day.
And by the way, here, they call them bedroom shoes.(?)

Although I love pj's and admit to wearing my sleepy pants to the bus stop with my daughter, I must agree with you. Save the pj's for bed...or at least for home.

Ok here's where I dissagree, and I totally feel for the couple with the baby. My daughter is 8 months old and STILL getting me up every two hours at night to nurse. I rarely leave the house, and when I do people are just BEGGING me to go somewhere with me protesting the whole while. They have taken me out in my pajamas because it was all I could do that day to get out of bed and be part of the family! That was when my little was about 2 months old. Now, I do get dressed to leave so it's not so bad, but right after having a baby...and sometimes even 8 months later, sleep deprivation can make even the preppiest of us just not care at all what we look like, and I think that sometimes thats ok.

Also, I'd much rather my daughter go to school in pajama pants and fuzzy slippers any day, than the other 12 yo girls in her class wearing push up bras, short skirts and high heels! Oh how I love my comfort loving, hippy daughter!

Just my two cents. Love ya!

I've seen people in PJs and house shoes at the grocery store and Wal-Mart. I can see why some people would do it, but I'm the kind of gal that has to have makeup on before I leave the house, so there's no way I'd be seen in public in the clothes I sleep in!

Thanks for stopping by and entering my breast cancer lean cuisine lunch tote giveaway!

I just "happened" upon your blog and enjoyed reading this post! I agree that PJ pants are becoming way too common and should be saved for lounging around the house or errands where you stay in the car. right?

You are hillarious, yet I so agree with you. I can't believe what kids wear now-a-days. I could never even imagine wearing pajamas out in public...that's like wearing your undies in public you know?!!! Couldn't do it and hate seeing it done.

I agree with you and have to disagree with the comment from 'the mommy'.

Pajama pants aren't a big difference from say... pull on yoga pants, or jersey pants. Any of those are easy to pull on and are comfortable. So if you can pull on pajama pants, you can pull on yoga pants and then be presentable for public.

I think our whole society looks like shit. Excuse my language but I look through my grandmothers, or heck, even my mother's old photo's and people DRESSED. I'm not saying wear a skirt and jacket to go grocery shopping, but going out to eat is different. If I'm wearing a sweatshirt and jeans - we skip a restaurant and do a BBQ joint or deli type place.

Good post. I have a million pet peeves. And I seem to be getting bitchier as I get older, not mellow. What's up with that?
